Dear Beard Families,

We have had a wonderful year so far.  I want to recap all of the great things going on up until now.  In August, we started off the year with an amazing “Welcome Back Picnic” for the students that invited parents to come during the day and have lunch with their children.  During September, we had a great  “Open House” with a huge parent turnout!!!  Our parent support groups and monthly meetings have grown tremendously from years past.  You are always welcome to attend and join.  “Parent Night in the Garden,” was a tremendous success and enjoyed by all that attended.  Families went to the Children’s Museum from Beard School and had a lovely time.  “Technology Night” introduced the new program we are using in the classrooms called “MeMoves.”  It was enjoyed by all families that attended.  Chicago Public Schools CEO, Barbara Bryd-Bennett, visited our school and was very impressed with Beard.  We enjoyed touring Dr. Bennett around and showing her all of the wonderful things Beard School has to offer.  Our students have also been participating in the fun by wearing “crazy socks” and “crazy hair” to school, while dressing in orange the day before Halloween.  Halloween was “spooktacular” and fun was had by all in the spooky gym, at the costume parade, and trick o’ treating down the Beard hallways. Thank you to all the parents that volunteer their time to make our events so successful! As we continue to focus on parent and student engagement, we are working hard during the day.  Teachers are implementing their second common core unit plans this quarter.  Teacher and paraprofessionals are also working with students to meet student IEP goals.  Lastly, all teachers are integrating technology into every aspect of their curriculum.  Continuing their program from last year, the Children’s Theater Red Kite program has started and the students are loving drama time.  We look forward to seeing all of you on Report Card Pick!
